If you’re looking for a cute YA romance that’s so much more than just a romance, PLEASE pick up It’s You Every Time by Charlene Thomas.
September 24: Sydney and Marcus have a fateful meeting at a Dunkin’ in New York City. They both decide to ditch their plans for the day and get to know each other more. They spend the entire day together until, at 10:15 pm, they’re standing in a crosswalk when suddenly they hear screeching tires and see bright lights….
They wake up…. and it’s September 24 again.
And again.
And again.
What follows is not just a romance. It’s a story about grief, fate, and healing from the death of a loved one, while learning that you don’t have to shoulder everything alone.
“There are plans for us that are bigger than us. Roles we’ll play that we may never realize. Stars we’ll create but might never see shine. Maybe that’s love in its simplest form – being with someone in their moment of need, even if it is only for a moment.”
What I Liked
The Time Loop
I think the author did a GREAT job with the time loop trope in this book. It never felt like it was being used as filler. Each repeat of the day contributed to the plot in a meaningful way, which allowed the story to be a quick, engaging read.
Sydney & Marcus
Sydney and Marcus are going to live rent free in my heart for the rest of time. They were written so realistically. They talked like Gen Z teenagers would talk, and they acted like Gen Z teenagers would act. They felt shy around a new crush and still had that uncertainty of how to act around a cute girl or boy you just met. They avoided things and didn’t communicate well, and it made them perfectly imperfect.
The ENDING OH MY GOD
The tearsssssss that I shed when I finished this book. Without giving too many spoilers, just know that it tugged on my heartstrings in all the right way and deeply touched me. I especially liked the message that you don’t have to be like Atlas and hold up the sky alone, and maybe fate puts people in your life who aren’t forever, but they’re there when you need them most.
What I Didn't Like
I honestly don’t have any complaints about this book. I really loved every aspect of it.
Final Thoughts
Overall, this book is a deeply moving YA romance with a fun time loop added in. I highly recommend if you’re looking for something to tug on your heartstrings. If you’re looking for a book with similar vibes, check out my review of If Tomorrow Never Comes.
