If you’re look for a cute, sweet romance to pick up this summer, check out If Tomorrow Never Comes.
On the eve of a life-saving stem cell transplant, Elliot Holland decides to step out of her shell and live excitingly. She meets Jaime Sullivan at a bar and agrees to accompany him to a baking class, where sparks fly. The chemistry is breathtaking, and they share a passionate kiss outside of Elliot’s hotel before Elliot goes her own way, never expecting to see Jaime again.
One year later, Elliot feels like things are beginning to work out. She’s moved to a new city to kick start her graphic design business, and things are looking up. She even gets to meet Carly, the girl who donated her stem cells to give Elliot another chance at life. Elliot feels like everything is going well until she meets Carly’s boyfriend, who happens to be Jaime, the man she’s spent the past year pining over.
What I Liked
The Cuteness
This book was so so cute. If you’re looking for tooth-rotting fluff, I highly recommend this read. It was the epitome of a sweet romance book. The chemistry between Jaime and Elliot was off the charts. Even when they were trying to be just friends, you could feel the magnetic pull between them. Their conversation flowed naturally, and I found myself laughing out loud at times because their interactions were funny. Plus, Hank was such a cute character to add. Any book that has a cute dog gets extra points in my book.
The Realness
While this book was full of sweetness that will give you a cavity, it was also full of real, raw moments. Elliot is in remission from leukemia, and the constant anxiety of living with a chronic illness is prevalent in this read. This book did bring some tears to my eyes as I read about Elliot’s struggle, especially when she has a health scare later in the book. I felt like I was really connected to the characters, which is just a testament to the author’s writing skills.
The Non-Explicitness
While I am no stranger to smut in romance books, it is always a breath of fresh air to read one without it. If you’re looking for a clean, innocent read, don’t feel afraid to pick this one up. All physical scenes were fade to black, without any explicit description whatsoever. This sweet romance is just warm, fluffy vibes that will have you squealing and kicking your feet.
What I Didn't Like
There wasn’t much that I didn’t like about this book. I think my biggest desire was to get a little more from the side characters. It was in third-person, but each chapter was assigned the POV of either Elliot or Jaime. I think it might’ve been a bit better to expand the view to include Carly and Blythe. Even if it was just a few snippets here and there, I think it would’ve added more to their characters if we could read some of their thoughts.
Final Thoughts
Overall, this book was the perfect fluffy romance to start the summer. It was short, it was sweet, and it hit me in all the right feelings. It had me laughing out loud on one page and tearing up the next. If you’re looking for your next summer romance read, look no further.
